After the slow pace of the past several months, Readytex Art Gallery and her affiliated artists, are ready and eager to present a special new exhibition in the gallery. Particularly now, when the gripping crisis worldwide, but also in our own country specifically, provides a rich source of inspiration for creativity and expression. For the upcoming group exhibition IN THE FACE OF CHANGE our artists have created works in which they show if and how, the current situation has affected their lives and the world around them. Due to the COVID-19 measures, we will not be hosting an opening reception, but starting from Friday November 6th, guests are welcome to visit the exhibition.
IN THE FACE OF CHANGE, the broader discussion about the effects of, and the reaction to change, has never been as relevant as it is now. That the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in drastic changes for practically everyone, cannot be disputed. But the world seems to be upside down in other areas as well. And our own country is also going through significant changes politically, socially and economically. In times of crisis the role of art and artists becomes increasingly important. Art is after all, an expressive outlet and a potential trigger for dialogue. Because either directly or indirectly, obviously or subtly, art is often also a reflection of the unspoken opinion or the simmering frustration of an entire community.
In the diverse collection presented at this exhibition, it is particularly interesting to see how each individual artist deals with the subject matter. While some choose to reflect on the more visual aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic, others focus mainly on the social and the emotional effects. The difficult situation in our country, which is further exacerbated by the Corona crisis, is also touched upon in the collection. And then there are also artists who have decided not to let the crisis influence their artistic productions. Because indeed, in the face of change everyone reacts in his or her own manner. The participating artists are Reinier Asmoredjo, Kenneth Flijders, Shaundell Horton, Sri Irodikromo, Rinaldo Klas, John Lie A Fo, Kurt Nahar, Sunil Puljhun, Dhiradj Ramsamoedj, Kit-Ling Tjon Pian Gi, Roddney Tjon Poen Gie, René Tosari, Wilgo Vijfhoven and Hanka Wolterstorff. And furthermore, the family of Soeki Irodikromo, whose recent passing was a deeply poignant event for them, for us, and for many others in 2020, has also loaned two of the artist’s new, never-before-shown works for the exhibition.
We kindly invite you to visit IN THE FACE OF CHANGE at Readytex Art Gallery. The exhibition is on display from Friday November 6th until Saturday November the 28th, during the regular opening hours of the gallery: Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm and on Saturday from 8:30 am – 1:30 pm. For your safety as well as ours, Readytex Art Gallery observes the necessary COVID-19 measures.
