Atlantic World Art Fair 2023

Atlantic World Art Fair 2023

01/06/2023 - 15/06/2023

Readytex Art Gallery is proud to announce her participation in this year’s Atlantic World Art Fair (AWAF 2023), showing on global online art platform Artsy from June 1 – 15, 2023. This third annual online experience, spearheaded by Lisa Howie from Black Pony Gallery in Bermuda, features a curated group of knowledgeable galleries focused on talented contemporary art makers in the Caribbean, the Atlantic Islands and the region’s wider diasporas. AWAF 2023 once again highlights a dynamic, under-represented art territory with complex, intertwined histories, relations and cultures informed by peoples of Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe. Readytex Art Gallery has been an active partner in the Atlantic World Art Fair, representing visual artists from Suriname, since the fair’s inception in 2021. Please note, for those present in Suriname, the participating works from our artists can also be enjoyed in person as they are on display on the second floor of our gallery, throughout June.

This year Readytex Art Gallery returns to AWAF 2023 with Patterns of Power: meditations on spirituality, politics, and multiculturalism —an expansive group of paintings and sculptures by fifteen of Suriname’s most prolific artists. In his essay written in support of Readytex Art Gallery’s collection, visual artist Xavier Robles de Medina (born in Suriname, currently living and working in Berlin, Germany), states that the online exhibition explores the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Suriname through a range of themes and artistic practices. “Patterns of Power delves deep into Suriname’s colonial history, while also drawing attention to the social, economic, and political issues facing our nation today. The exhibition also explores how the Surinamese notion of Alakondre reflects our rich cultural heritage. By dissecting the theme of identity in our multicultural Caribbean society, the artists attempt to uncover what lies beneath the surface of these substantial societal challenges and consequently the ripple effects these challenges have on artistic and spiritual practice.” The artists represented in our AWAF 2023 booth are Reinier Asmoredjo, Paul Chang, Shaundell Horton, Sri Irodikromo, Kenneth Flijders, Miguel Keerveld, Rinaldo Klas, John Lie A Fo, Kurt Nahar, Sunil Puljhun, Dhiradj Ramsamoedj, Kit-Ling Tjon Pian Gi, René Tosari, Wilgo Vijfhoven and Hanka Wolterstorff.

The Atlantic World Art Fair will be on view on Artsy from June 1 – June 15, 2023, so please be sure to mark your calendars, join Artsy (it’s free) and follow: https://www.artsy.net/atlantic-world-art-fair.
