Solo Exhibition Dhiradj Ramsamoedj
(6 Jun 2019 - 29 Jun 2019)

Solo exhibition Dhiradj Ramsamoedj: Little Thank You

From June 6th until June 29th, Readytex Art Gallery proudly presents the new solo exhibition of visual artist Dhiradj Ramsamoedj: Little Thank You. A surprising exhibition by an artist who is continually pushing his boundaries and expanding his concepts. In his career, now spanning 15 eventful years, Dhiradj Ramsamoedj is always in search of new methods and materials to take his experiments to the next level. In search also, of a new way, with a ‘little thank you’, to keep his public engaged and to thank them for their continued support.

In Little Thank You Ramsamoedj indulges in two of his favorite visual art media: mixed media paintings and sculptures. The common thread throughout the collection is formed by the figures based on his well-known flexible man sculptures. But in their execution, their presentation, and definitely in their dimensions, they differ significantly from the ‘life-sized’ sculptures that he previously made. He connects the figures, literally and figuratively, and somewhat playfully, to the two ‘surfaces’ that he prefers to work on: books and canvasses.

Fascinated by books because of their design and the knowledge they hold within, he often transforms them into beautiful, personal ‘painting-diaries’ or into the ‘canvas’ for projects in which he involves others. Here however, he uses them to construct pedestals for the figurines that he makes from minuscule pieces of scrap metal. These figures are no longer soft and ‘flexible’, but hard and strong. And books represent knowledge, and knowledge is strength.

In the second series of artworks in Little Thank You Dhiradj Ramsamoedj transforms his canvasses into relief artworks in which the three-dimensional figures are literally and figuratively, pulling the strings. They are, although much smaller than the ‘flexible man’ sculptures, also made out of textile. From their positions against or on top of the canvas, it appears as though they are directing the imagery that is depicted within. But as he always is, Dhiradj Ramsamoedj is fully in control, and again according to an utterly meticulous concept. In this collection, the use of space and of natural shapes and dimensions based on the principles of the Fibonacci Series and of the Golden Ratio, play a key role.

In Little Thank You, you will get to know a different side of Dhiradj Ramsamoedj, so don’t let this unique opportunity pass you by. You are welcome at the opening in Readytex Art Gallery on June 6th between 7:00 and 9:00 pm. The exhibition is on display from Friday June 7th until Saturday June 29th, from Monday - Friday from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, and on Saturday from 8:30 am - 1:30 pm. Also open in the evenings on Friday the 7th and Saturday the 8th, from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

Dhiradj Ramsamoedj
In the past paintings by Dhiradj Ramsamoedj were mostly oils on canvas on which the paint was applied with a pallet knife. Now he paints mostly with a brush which results in a smooth, flat finish. The style has become less realistic and the people in his recent work have a completely different appearance. Humans still form the main theme in his work, but the faces of the characters now all have a similar, undefined shape in which the eyes, nose, mouth and other features are only hinted at subtly...
