The November Thursday-Night-Feature at Readytex Art Gallery is soon approaching, and this time we have something different in store. The focus of this TNF won’t be on a currently active contemporary artist, but on an artist who, during his regrettably short life, played a key role in the development of Surinamese art and art education.
On Thursday the 3rd of November, art historian and author of the book ‘Jules Chin A Foeng, kunstenaar, leraar, activist’, [Jules Chin A Foeng, artist, teacher, activist] Paul Faber, will talk about this important literary publication in which he outlines the life and the work of this great Surinamese artist Jules Chin A Foeng (1944-1983). But as the author himself states in the introduction, the book also describes the Surinamese art world of the mid 60’s until the early eighties. It is a period in which the unique identity of Surinamese art and the Surinamese art world started to take shape. Paul Faber will illustrate his presentation with a slideshow of images obtained from various sources including the artist’s own extensive archives.
The TNF of Thursday November 3rd with the presentation by Paul Faber takes place at Readytex Art Gallery at the Steenbakkerijstraat 30, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. The presentation starts at 7:30 pm. Do not miss this special presentation about an important and interesting Surinamese artist! And on this evening you will of course also be able to purchase the book, which the evening is all about after all, ‘Jules Chin A Foeng, kunstenaar, leraar, activist’, at the gallery.
