Paul Chang was educated at the ‘Jan van Eyck Academie’ in Maastricht, the Netherlands and at the ‘Academie voor Beeldende Vorming’ in Tilburg, also in the Netherlands. Paul Chang was born and raised in Suriname, but has been living and working in the USA for many years. Although his art is exhibited primarily in the USA and other countries, he always has a beautiful collection on display at Readytex Art Gallery in Suriname.
The theme in the art of Paul Chang is always centered around nature, and just like nature itself, his works consistently radiate a serene atmosphere of tranquility and beauty. With acrylic paint he transfers the natural landscapes and the beautiful flora and fauna that so greatly inspire him, onto his canvases in harmonious, colorful compositions in which the figurative and the abstract are often combined. The artist acknowledges that his work changes constantly, but stresses that his inspiration still predominantly lies in Suriname.
His paintings are never exactly true to nature or realistic; he rather prefers to fantasize, create and improvise, and this is what makes his work so intriguing. In February 2020 Paul Chang showed his latest work in a solo exhibition at Readytex Art Gallery in Suriname.
