I create ceramic sculptures inspired by the rich multi
cultural society I was raised in. My sculptures, which are made in
predominantly natural earthy hues, are strongly influenced by my own Javanese
culture with the addition of motifs from other cultures as well. I aim to
create works of art in shapes that are authentic, but also contemporary.
Having the privilege to experience the world from
different perspectives, living within a society made up of a great variety of
cultures representative of the world past and present, and all that has been
passed on to this generation by our ancestors, are all elements reflected in my
work. It is important that we cherish our heritage and that is what I try to
express through my work.
It is a celebration, as my guru (teacher) once
beautifully said : “It is an age-old rhythm from our ancestors but adapted to
go along with a new rhythm, the rhythm to which we all dance.
