Readytex - Art - Crafts - Suriname: Reinier Asmoredjo
Welkom bij Readytex : Reinier Asmoredjo
Reinier Asmoredjo paints in bright sunny colors and in a stylistic semi- figurative way, often about his fascination and faith with the daily struggle of life of marginalised women, in oil on canvas. Many women are black, from the interior Maroon tribes to be recognised by their traditional wear of knee length checkered cotton pangis, tied at the hips and by the intricately braided hair. Asmoredjo says the so called black skin color is the most interesting to paint, because in his experience this skin-color can only be portrayed on canvas by applying all colors of the rainbow, layer after layer, in a specific order. Time and time again the sun, a peacock, fruit and flowers are returning symbols of faith, fertility, procreation and beauty in his paintings.
